Spitfire Vb AB372 (DU-B) of 312 (Czechoslovak) Squadron

This aircraft, piloted by RAF 125415 F/O Jan ŠŤASTNÝ, was part of the RAF Ibsley-based fighter close escort on Ramrod 95, the 320 Squadron/98 Squadron Mitchell raid to Lanvéoc-Poulmic on 25 October 1943.

It was hit by flak over Brest, caught fire, and Jan bailed out. He was not seen in his dinghy, his remains were not found, and he was assumed to have drowned. He is commemorated at Runnymede…
