Northrop A-17A Nomad 3521 recovered in Ontario

Two similar planes collided on 13 December 1940 over Lake Muskoka while on a rescue mission to find and help a third, killing both crews. One of the planes disappeared into the lake, where it lay until July 2010.

The remains of the two airmen:

RAF 39219 F/L Peter Campbell (P)
RCAF R/53927 LAC Theodore Scribner (‘Ted’) Bates (O)

were recovered in October 2012 and laid to rest…

but it’s only in very recent times that the aircraft itself is being brought to the surface for restoration and display…
