This is where the anti-aircraft gun positions were (the ruins can still be seen to this day) that formed the target for the combined operation of 320 and 98 Squadrons on 25 September 1944. Several bombs fell wide of the target, hitting the church and killing several civilians. A lady who as a four-year old sheltered under the pews and who saw the casualties despite her mother’s attempt to protect her from the sight, was able to attend the Hees ceremony.
