The Mystery of John Robert Brodby

174035 Flying Officer John Robert Brodby served with 16 Squadron alongside Jimmy Taylor, and on 20 September 1944 whilst on secret detachment to RAF Northolt, flew the last of several ops in support of Operation Market Garden. According to an eyewitness, his Spitfire almost hit the back of this house in Hees, Nijmegen before he crashed nearby. Why did he crash? Although it appears he was shot down, documentation in support of this so far seems slim to none. What was the serial number of his plane? The Operations Record Books give one number, but other sources give another. What was his exact crash location? There’s a suggestion of an address or two, but what supporting evidence is there?
